My travels with boat cross Siberia ended up with an expedition to Sayan land late July. We traveled Kitoy river and its tributaries, on the footprints of Adidas team. Here's Tom's story about their trip. We ran some waterfalls, walked long ways with boats across taiga and visited amazingly beautiful places. Circumstances - here.

Hire a river guide for your trip

There are several obvious reasons to have a guide on your team.

First. It's almost impossible to find English speaking person outside Russia's biggest cities. But any native in Altai, Sayan or even Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan perfectly speaks Russian.

Second is river guiding itself . Our guides are very experienced kayakers. They know local roads, detours, local supply bazaars. They can guide you through any doors, even doors of rasta-consciences. They know all the put-ins and take-outs, safe camping places, where no one will bother you. If you paddle rivers class II-IV, it will be their pleasure to serve you as safety as well.

Third is the knowledge of local laws, authorities, regulations and local people behavior. Guys will let no one to bribe you if it's pointless. They will guard you from locals frauds etc.

You also have an option of hiring a cooking guide (far additional fee). His duty will include carry all needed dishes for cooking, buying groceries for the best prices at local bazaars. And, of coarse, cooking the food. Just let yourself relax and not to think about cooking and groceries after a long paddling day.

Prices are:

English speaking guide - 85EUR / $125 per day of paddling or hiking with boats and 20EUR / $30 any other day of trip (waiting, driving or rest).

Additional fee for cooking is 20EUR / $30 per day of cooking and 10EUR / $15 per day without cooking.
